Curved Spine Treatment

Scoliosis Is a Common Condition

About 3 percent of the population has a spinal curvature great enough to be considered scoliosis. If you were to look at a person’s spine affected by scoliosis from the side, you would see the bones of the spine in an "S" or “C” shape.

As the condition progresses, one shoulder may be higher or lower or in front of or behind the other. Undue pressure can also be placed on the rib cage, which causes problems with breathing and digestion.

Dr. Duca recommends screening every child for scoliosis in elementary school. If children aren't screened for the need for curved spine treatment in elementary school, they really should be screened in high school. Even for adults who have learned to ignore the scoliosis related back pain they have suffered with for 20, 30, 40, or even 50 years, it's not too late to get supportive care that can make everyday activities pain free.

Even if You Didn't Need Curved Spine Treatment as a Child, You May Need It as an Adult

Scoliosis can be congenital, but can also result from spinal cord injury, muscle injury, or osteoporosis. Sometimes there's no clear cause for scoliosis at all. A combination of injuries and bad posture can cause the slow slippage of the spine into the "C" shape of scoliosis. When that happens, many people develop full-blown complications before they know anything is wrong. It is always best to see your chiropractor as soon as possible when you think you may have a need for curved spine treatment.

What Your Chiropractor Can Do for Curvature of the Spine

The more time you spend on the job sitting in front of a computer, the more you need to know and do the exercises a chiropractor can show you to restore the normal curvature of your spine. While you are working on spinal realignment, a chiropractor may give you a supportive brace to give you longer intervals without pain as you go about your day to day activities. A chiropractor can relieve the pressure on your joints that causes degenerative arthritis. Chiropractic care for scoliosis restores the normal alignment of your spine, giving you a much greater quality of life.
