Spinal Decompression for Back Pain Treatment in Birmingham

spinal decompression for back pain.jpgBack problems are one of the most common reasons for seeking chiropractic care. Back pain can be caused by a wide variety of conditions, such as a bulging disc, sciatica or spinal stenosis. Spinal decompression is a highly effective treatment offered at our clinic. It is one of the chiropractic care techniques we use to treat back pain at its source.

What Is Spinal Decompression?

Discs serve as shock-absorbing cushions between your vertebrae. Bulging disc occurs when the disc expands beyond its normal limits, triggering pain in surrounding nerves and tissues. It can be caused by injury but is often a result of aging or daily wear-and-tear. While symptoms are not always present, a bulging disc may lead to back pain, weakness or numbness in the back and legs.

Spinal decompression is a safe FDA-approved therapy that lacks the risks associated with drugs and surgery. While it can be helpful for a number of back problems, it is especially effective for treating bulging and herniated disc. This technique works by creating "distractive" forces that produce a vacuum effect on spinal discs, pulling the displaced vertebra back into position. Non-surgical decompression is performed using a mechanical traction device. During the procedure, the patient is strapped to a moving table that applies distraction force to the affected area between periods of relaxation.

At Back On Track Chiropractic & Wellness Center, we offer a variety of holistic treatments for back problems, including spinal decompression, massage therapy and corrective exercises. In conjunction with regular chiropractic adjustments, these treatments help the body heal itself naturally from the inside out.
