Orthotics for a Stronger Foundation, Better Health

With summer's warm weather comes limitless footwear options such as flip flops, sandals, and boat shoes. While your toes scream to be released from the confines of their winter boots, we urge you to select summer footwear that offers your feet the strong support they need to carry you day in and day out.

Your body's support and good health begins with its foundation - your feet. They support the rest of the body (spine, bones, and soft tissues) and protect it from the stress of impact as you move. Without the proper support and footwear, your feet will become sore, leading to aches, pains, and imbalance throughout the rest of the body.

orthotics_placed_on_footChoosing sensible footwear does not mean you have to forego the fashions of the summer. In fact, open toed shoes can actually be good for your feet, allowing them to breath and providing plenty of room for your toes to stretch. Less secure sandals, however, force toes to grip the sandal to keep it in place, this leads to painful tendonitis (inflammation in the tendons). Select sandals that attach securely to your feet with an ankle strap to avoid this.

It is also important that flats, like slip-ons or boat shoes, offer adequate arch support to prevent the foot from flattening and stressing the tendons, muscles, and joints. Supportive inserts, such as foam and gel inserts or customized orthotics, will ensure every pair of shoes provide enough support for the foot. Medical-grade shoe inserts, called orthotics, can be formed and sized to fit your feet specifically. They balance your stance and stride, preventing foot-related pain throughout the body.

Sometimes choosing the best shoe is still not enough to prevent foot pain. At Back On Track Chiropractic & Wellness Center, we offer patients custom-fitting orthotics to balance and support your feet all year long. Let your feet and body breathe a sigh of relief.
