Migraine Treatment With Chiropractic Care

Migraines are not normal headaches. These are headaches that pump the brakes on whatever it is you were hoping to accomplish that day, headaches that may leave you lying in bed simply waiting for it to end. Thankfully, it is not so hard to identify what type of migraine you are experiencing and take the appropriate steps to address it.

Types Of Migraines

  • Tension-Type Migraine. We are starting the list here as this is the most common type. A tension-type migraine feels like a tight, heavy band around your head and may involve shoulder and neck pain. These typically last from thirty minutes to several days.
  • Menstrual Migraine. These are a type of migraine that comes and goes with the normal menstrual cycle.
  • Vestibular Migraine. A vestibular migraine is a type of migraine that also creates a feeling of vertigo or a spinning sensation.
  • Ocular Migraine. This type of migraine is thankfully somewhat rare, involving the appearance of colors and flashing lights in one's vision.
  • Hemiplegic Migraine. This one is, again, rare, and involves temporary feelings of weakness in one side of your body.

Identifying Your Migraine

You do not need to memorize the names for every type of migraine, of course, and no two people experience a migraine in the same way, so yours might not completely fit the bill for any known type. What you need to know essentially comes down to a few questions.

  1. How long are these headaches lasting, and how frequent are they?
  2. What are the other symptoms?
  3. Is there an aura, that is, are there any visual symptoms, such as seeing lights or other illusions?
  4. What were you doing before the headache began?

Once you have answered these questions you can talk to your physician and find out what steps to take next.

Seeking Chiropractic Care

In many cases, a migraine owes to musculoskeletal issues. Pinched nerves, misalignment of the spine, and so on. In these cases, a visit to the chiropractor may help to provide fast relief.
